Hey Peeps:
My main blog for awhile is going to be over at:
www.slippyjenkins.com
I'm using a Tumblr blog, which really suits me well I think. It's easy to update and ties my Twitter, Flickr, and even this account all into one blog. Very Nice. So go there:
thx
Everybody and their mother is talking about Pownce, a service nobody really needs. Yet, nerds will be nerds, and nerds will go where all the other nerds are going. Whether it be an iPhone or a new service, there is never a shortage of suckers who will give in to the latest hype.
Everybody's presence on the net is all over the place. MySpace. Facebook. Twitter. Jaiku. Match.com, Yahoo Personals. I've probably signed up for about twenty new services this year. I'm just sick of it. Half of these things I don't even need. Like Pownce -- I just don't get it. Twitter suits me just well, thank you. And if I'm going to send files to somebody -- I'll email it to them. Maybe I wouldn't be complaining right now if they just made the sign up process on these things a little easier. I don't know how I feel about a National ID card, but what I wouldn't give to have one Login/Password where I could sign up for any service. There's OpenID -- but who the hell is developing for it.
I say this, yet today I signed up for another service. Irony, I know. But I think I need it and I think it's going to be useful. Maybe not, but we'll see. Maybe I'm just a sucker signing up for a new service!
I've been looking for a place to post my thoughts, interests, quotes from other people, etc. Just a "Current Thinking Status of Slippy Jenkins" if you will. What about this blog? You'll get no insights here. I post about personal stuff mainly -- stuff for friends and family. Where the hell I went this weekend. And plus, I want to update this new thing more frequently. I hate posting long entries. I just can't do it. And Vox doesn't have an easy way to update now. So this new blog will be different. This new blog will be all business.
So, here's my Tumblr Page: http://slippy.tumblr.com
Oh, and the Tumblr Page will be pulling in posts from here and Twitter. So If you like the new blog, you can probably just stay there.
I am in heaven once again. Remember that Tea place I was raving about a couple months..the one that closed down? Well, in it's a place is a new tea garden, just as good...just as pleasant. It's called the Tea Garden and everything is almost the way it was before, almost as if the owners of the last place just wanted to start over. But these are new owners, but they've kept intact everything that made this place so great. There's a beautiful garden out back, plenty of comfortable seats and shade. Some nice fans that keep you cool. A wonderful assortment of teas, in fact, way too many. I just asked the guy behind the bar to give me something cold and berry flavored. I'm drinking something that's only 30 calories (and cost me $5 -- yikes!). There's also some free wifi, which is always nice. The waitresses where some Japanese garb, and the bartenders where orange lapcoats of some sort. Weird, but whatevs.
This is great. You know the troubles I've been having finding a great place to relax away from the apartment. This is perfect I think. For now I just have to find that place near the ocean that I can go to.

Oh, and it's open till Midnight most nights! Awesome! I think I'm gonna spend a lot of time here.
The reason why I haven't given you an update on my phone is because I've been playing with my phone so much while I'm here on vacation in NYC. I wish I was a commuter again, because I can see a total use for the iPhone when you're in a city and taking public transportation all the time. The iPhone is truly the most exciting and greatest gadget I ever owned I think. I can truly do everything, and surprisingly, do it well. The email is sick, and so is the web browsing. Everything about it is just so beautiful.
There is something I hate about the phone, tho. It's slippery. I'm used to carry my phone in my had (developed this habit because the Treo was sooo big) and so I'm always worried that this thing is just gonna fly out of my palms and across the sidewalk. But...I am trying to carry it it my pocket. It fits there quite nice actually...it's very slim.
I'm gonna get back to playing with my iPhone now.
But one more thing: Activating this thing was hell. I finally had my phone activated by calling, yet again, the AT&T people. After 48hours my phone was activated. This is unacceptable, especially when my other phone was rendered useless due to the porting of the number.
I discovered a work around to the issue I was having. It's explained in detail here. Now all I have to do is wait. Damn it.
This is me waiting. Sad.
I'm happy to report that I got my 8G iPhone today from the Apple Store in Oak Brook [gallery here]. My brother and I went straight there from the airport. There were about a 100 people in front of us, but the line moved quick and it seems that everyone who wanted an iPod got one. There were a lot there! We did the suburban thing and went to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate. And then I went home to activate the phone.
I cannot activate the phone. I need to be back in Los Angeles to activate the phone because for some reason you CANNOT ACTIVATE THE FUCKING PHONE FROM OUT OF STATE.
DAMN IT. DAMN IT ALL TO HELL.
So now, I have to wait until next Sunday to activate and use my beautiful phone. Another week of waiting. This is torture.
Well, it's that day. The day we've been waiting for since January. The iPhone is here. Am I getting one? Well, I'm at LAX right now ready to jump a flight to Chicago. I touchdown at around 5PM. According TAUW, there's already a line at my local Apple Store, which is weird. This is Oak Brook we're talking about. Not San Francisco or even downtown Chicago. The good: there are 4 Apple Stores in the Chicago area and a billion AT&T stores.
So if they still have a few left by the time I get in line, I'm getting one.
I'M GETTTTINGGGGG ONNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
